Werner Enterprises’ chief legal officer, Nathan Meisgeier, is taking on the role of president at the Nebraska-based carrier.
The company’s board approved the change last week, placing Meisgeier in a role that Derek Leathers held since May 2011.
Meisgeier will remain as chief legal officer, while Leathers will keep his roles as CEO and board chairman.
“Since being promoted to Werner’s General Counsel in 2016, Nathan has been a transformative leader across the enterprise, currently acting as Chief of Staff and bringing a remarkable level of integrity and strategic vision to our company,” Leathers said in a statement. “Nathan is a company-first servant leader.”
The Harvard-educated lawyer for the carrier joined the company in 2005 as senior counsel of litigation, serving in legal roles until becoming general counsel in 2016, according to a company bio. His job puts him in the position to handle high-exposure claims, Werner says.
“In my 18 years with this great company, I have learned invaluable lessons from many current and former Werner leaders, including both Derek and CL Werner himself,” Meisgeier said. “I am fortunate to be a part of the best and one of the most experienced leadership teams in transportation.”
