Werner Enterprises Chief Operating Officer Marty Nordlund will step down from his role at the end of the year, taking on new client relations responsibilities in a leadership shift.
“[Nordlund] will be assuming a new role focused on fostering and developing strong relationships with some of the Company's largest customers and will continue to oversee several other areas within the Company,” a securities filing said Tuesday.
Senior Vice President of Werner’s dedicated division Eric Downing will be promoted to executive vice president and COO as of Jan. 1, taking on executive responsibilities for Werner’s trucking and logistics business units.
Both executives have been with Werner for decades. Nordland started at the company in 1994 as an account executive and became COO in 2016. Downing began his tenure there in 1998 as a fleet coordinator and has taken on various titles since, including his current role as the head of Werner's dedicated division in 2016.
In that most recent role, his leadership grew truck count by 40% and revenue nearly doubled, according to the filing.
The shift is the second major leadership change Werner has revealed in recent months. In August, the carrier and logistics provider announced that CFO John Steele would retire after 25 years in the role.
