Dive Insight:
Volvo and Greenlane, a joint venture of rival Daimler Truck North America, NextEra Energy and Blackrock’s Global Infrastructure Partners, aim to make finding EV truck charging easier for drivers.
Last year, Greenlane unveiled plans for a 280-mile electric truck charging corridor along Interstate 15 in California to address the need for publicly available, nationwide electric charging for commercial vehicles. Volvo allows multi-brand fleets to charge at Volvo Open Charge locations in a bid to increase trucking industry convenience.
Greenlane is planning additional sites in Long Beach, Barstow, and Baker, California.
“This partnership is a major step toward scaling the adoption of heavy-duty electric trucks,” Greenlane said in the announcement. “Volvo’s collaboration with Greenlane underscores its joint commitment to delivering an exceptional end-to-end customer experience.”
Both companies will continue to work together to integrate and make additional membership features, such as booking reservations, available in Volvo Open Charge.
“By streamlining the transition to electric fleets, we are providing a future-ready solution that keeps goods and services moving and drives meaningful progress toward zero-emissions freight transportation,” Patrick Macdonald-King, CEO of Greenlane, said in the announcement.
