Dive Brief:
- Trimac opened a new International Organization for Standardization tank depot in Pasadena, Texas, the company announced in a Sept. 16 press release.
- The facility can hold up to 600 ISO tanks, offering cleaning and maintenance, secure storage for empty and loaded tanks, in addition to drayage services.
- The Calgary-based company calls Pasadena a flagship location in its depot network because of its strategic location. The network also includes sites in Edmonton, Alberta; Markham, Illinois; Mississauga, Ontario; and Montreal.
Dive Insight:
The Pasadena depot places Trimac’s ISO tank equipment and services near Houston’s chemical corridor and major ports, and in turn, closer to its customers, according to the release.
“Pasadena is a natural next step in the growth of our ISO tank network,” Derek Gaston, director of product development, said in the release. “The Houston area is a major hub for chemical transportation, and establishing a depot here strengthens our ability to support customers across one of the industry’s most active markets.”
The ISO operation adds to wash, maintenance and transportation services already offered at the location, Gaston said in an email to Trucking Dive. More than 200 employees work at the site, including drivers, technicians and operations staff.
The site has three wash bays, and a dedicated ISO maintenance area under construction will be able to service up to six tanks at a time. Tank washing is available around the clock, while maintenance currently runs 16 hours a day and could expand to 24/7 as demand grows, Gaston said.
The terminal is already handling ISO tank volumes, mostly export driven, with some import business.
The opening adds to a Gulf Coast presence Trimac has been building through an acquisition. Last October, the company bought Houston-based Service Transport Co., a chemical hauler, which had 16 locations at the time of the deal, including four tank wash facilities and in-house mechanical services across the Gulf region.
The new depot doesn’t overlap with Service Transport’s tank wash operations, according to Gaston. Service Transport continues to support Trimac’s core bulk transportation business, while Pasadena expands the company’s ISO tank capabilities for commercial and enterprise customers.
Trimac’s U.S. operation registered at the Pasadena address — 13301 Bay Park Road — lists 464 power units and 478 drivers, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Trimac has kept expanding since its Service Take deal. In August, the company acquired California Freight, a bulk food logistics services provider, adding eight terminals, a warehousing terminal and a brokerage facility in California and Nevada.
“We are always looking to strengthen our network and better support our customers. We will share any future ISO depot announcements as they are released,” Gaston said in response to a question about planned growth.
