A Freightliner truck front, license plates and old company logos adorn the walls of the bulk hauler Trimac Transportation’s new headquarters.
That’s courtesy of architectural firm Kasian, who revamped the transportation company’s downtown digs for a smaller space given shifts in remote work for corporate employees.
The 15,000-square-foot office space, smaller than the carrier’s former headquarters, contains odes to the company’s founding in Saskatchewan in 1945.
Frosted vinyls on the glass office and conference room walls depict the evolution of Trimac’s truck fleet over the past 78 years.
“Our new headquarters provides a focal point for our Calgary-based corporate employees to meet, collaborate and deliver effective transportation solutions,” said Marc Gravel, Trimac director of facilities and real estate.
Trimac did not respond to emailed questions from Trucking Dive about the cost of the new space, whether it leases or owns it, and how many hybrid corporate employees are based there.
Huddle rooms, banquette and tiered seating, and small tables for informal work are among the office’s amenities.
The move consolidates Trimac’s corporate operations from a three-floor office unit in northeastern Calgary to the single-floor workspace downtown. In addition to downtown amenities for workers, the headquarters is near Trimac’s truckline and National Tank Services branch on the city’s southeast side.
“Located on the corner of 11th Ave SW and 2nd St SW, the headquarters’ design and excellent public transit links create an environment that mirrors Trimac’s distinct culture and heritage while supporting the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation,” the company said in its announcement.
The concept behind a wall composed of authentic Trimac truck parts is the same as the rest of the office design: underlining the connection between Trimac’s corporate operation and the fleet it runs.
A colorful license plate wall boasts the carrier’s scale in North America.
The carrier has about 3,400 team members, including independent contractors, and more than 140 branches across the continent, according to its website.
