James Welch, former CEO of YRC Worldwide, is the new board chair of Schneider National.
Welch was appointed chair Jan. 30 to succeed Adam Godfrey, who will step down and retire immediately as chairman, according to an SEC filing. Godfrey will leave the board following the company’s annual share holders meeting later this year.
Welch has served on Schneider’s board since 2018 and was CEO of YRC Worldwide, now Yellow, from 2011 until his retirement in 2018.
Godfrey has been a member of Schneider’s board since 2005, according to the company. He is managing partner of Stella Point Capital, which he co-founded in 2012.
Godfrey did not base his decision to retire on any disagreement with the company or the company's operations, policies or practices, the filing said. The board will shrink from 10 to nine members after Godfrey’s retirement.
