Ruan Transport has launched a customs brokerage service to support northbound and southbound freight movement between the U.S. and Mexico, according to a July 1 press release.
The Iowa-based company now provides customs clearance across major trade gateways, including Texas land ports, the seaports of Manzanillo and Altamira in Mexico, and air cargo hubs in Mexico City and Monterrey. The service also includes trade compliance, transportation and distribution and fulfillment support for cross-border supply chains.
“With this addition, we are helping customers navigate cross-border requirements more efficiently while reducing delays and improving overall supply chain performance,” Chief Commercial Officer Marty Wadle said in the release.
The move is designed to streamline freight flows between the U.S. and Mexico, where customs delays and documentation issues can disrupt supply chains. Ruan said its expertise includes harmonized tariff schedule, or HTS, classifications, trade compliance and door-to-door transportation solutions, such as 3PL brokerage and cross-border drayage.
Ruan is one of the nation’s larger private carriers, operating nearly 3,000 power units and employing more than 3,600 drivers, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Its contract distribution and fulfillment facilities — located in Texas, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota — accommodate freight forwarding, cross-docking, inspections and storage.
The customs brokerage launch is part of a broader rebranding of Ruan’s service offerings.
The company renamed its brokerage support division to “freight brokerage” to distinguish it from the new customs brokerage business. It also recently rebranded its value-added warehousing segment as “contract distribution and fulfillment,” reflecting its broader warehousing, distribution and fulfillment capabilities, a July 2 press release states.
