Ruan layoffs and site closures are occurring in Q1, according to mass layoff notices.
The carrier is shuttering facilities in California and Virginia, laying off at least 215 workers across the states as well as others based in West Virginia, according to Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification (WARN) Act letters.
Separations will affect 76 positions, including 59 drivers, for workers in Gordonsville and Rural Retreat, Virginia, as well as Beaver, West Virginia, according to a Jan. 5 letter. The cuts are slated to take effect March 1.
In California, Tulare and Turlock site closures affected 139 workers, effective Jan. 8, according to a WARN letter from November. The correspondence to local governments said 125 of the employees were drivers.
Virginia employment officials suggested that another company rehired dozens of the affected workers. Ruan representatives didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment on Wednesday and Thursday.
