RoadOne IntermodaLogistics has acquired Higgins Transport Service of Charleston, South Carolina, the company said in an Aug. 18 press release.
The acquisition adds 15 drivers to RoadOne’s Charleston operations and expands its drayage and intermodal capacity in the market, per the release. It also builds on the company’s expansion in the Southeastern U.S., which includes a 384,000-square-foot facility in nearby Summerville and another nearly 280,000 square-foot warehouse next to that operation planned for 2027.
Expansion in Charleston is a priority for RoadOne as it sees “significant long-term growth potential in the region, driven by its deep-water port and fast-growing population,” the company said. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
RoadOne EVP Jeremiah “JC” Carruthers in a statement said the addition of Higgins Transport Service strengthens the company’s commitment to Southeast expansion.
“Providing comprehensive, reliable and efficient distribution and logistics services throughout the U.S. is our goal, and we have been particularly focused on expanding our presence in Charleston and throughout the Southeast,” Carruthers said in the release. Justin Higgins, owner of Higgins Transport Service, and his team will join RoadOne, the release said.
Higgins Transport Service is a Charleston, South Carolina-based agent of Wall Street Intermodal, which provides port drayage and intermodal freight transportation services, according to the announcement.
Higgins said joining RoadOne is “an incredible milestone” for his company. He added leveraging RoadOne’s national platform enhances his firm’s ability to service clients and drive future growth.
Privately owned RoadOne of Randolph, Massachusetts, employs more than 2,500 drivers, spread across more than 100 port, rail and truckload terminals across the country.
In recent years the company has undergone leadership changes and rapid expansion through acquisition, which included Wilmac Enterprises, R&A Trucking, EHS Logistics Solutions, Rose Transportation and JZ Expedited Companies.
