Dive Brief:
- With the fate of the most coveted Yellow Corp. terminals decided, the bankrupt carrier’s trucks, trailers and other equipment are next up on the auction block.
- Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers has scheduled online, timed auctions in Orlando, Florida, on March 5, March 26, April 16 and May 7, with in-person inspection opportunities beforehand, according to the company’s website.
- Thousands of Yellow’s trailers and tractors were acquired between late 2020 and Q3 2021 — when the company ordered them with part of a COVID-19 relief loan, which it has since repaid.
Dive Insight:
The auctioneers plan to sell more than 5,000 pieces of equipment in batches by region.
First up will be the Eastern Regional Event next week, which features about 3,700 pieces of Yellow equipment based in Charlotte, North Carolina; Marietta, Georgia; Memphis, Tennessee; Richland, Mississippi; and Ringgold, Georgia.
And to be clear: It’s not all older equipment. Plenty of 2022 models, and a 2023 Volvo VNR 4x2 S/A day cab tractor with less than 14,000 miles on the odometer, are among the trucks being sold out of Ringgold.
Another 2,246 items will be available during the Central Regional Event on March 26, according to the Ritchie Bros. site.
The North Central and Northeast Regional Event in April and the East Regional Event in May did not yet have items listed online as of Monday.
A federal court last year authorized Ritchie Bros. to sell the equipment as part of Yellow's bankruptcy proceedings.
Interested parties can register to bid in the auctions at the Ritchie Bros. site, which contains photos of the items for sale and inspection hours.
