A Ryder System mobile technician service that launched last year will expand through the acquisition of Pit Stop Fleet Service, the transportation conglomerate said in a July 15 news release.
The business provides retail commercial fleet maintenance, from tire and transmission repairs to preventative maintenance and breakdown assistance, the company said. Financial terms of the deal weren’t shared.
Last year, the South Florida-based company sought to distinguish its physical maintenance locations with the mobile service, Torque by Ryder, which launched in six southern states. That coverage area grew to 19 states, primarily due to expansions along the East Coast.
That trajectory is continuing. Ryder anticipates expanding the service to Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Oregon and Washington, per a company website.
Pit Stop’s nine-state coverage area, according to its website, will help Ryder with that expansion, particularly in Mississippi — a Torque by Ryder map showed no presence there.
“With this latest Ryder acquisition, Ryder’s retail mobile maintenance services will be available in 140 markets in 20 states” and have about 200 technicians, Ryder said in the announcement.
Ron and Connie Perry, who co-founded Pit Stop in 1997, will help with the transition, which is expected to finish Aug. 1, per the release.
Ron Perry wanted Pit Stop’s customer-focused mission to continue and to ensure employees have opportunities to grow. He said that Ryder is “the ideal home for both.”
