- More than 5,500 Phillips 66, Conoco and 76-branded gas stations now accept the DriverDash mobile payment app, according to a Sept. 12 announcement.
- The DriverDash app, owned by payments and commerce platform WEX, allows fleet drivers to authorize fuel payments from their phones and collects data on fueling, mileage and driver identification to send to fleet managers.
- This marks yet another example of gas stations and convenience stores increasing the variety of payment options for professional drivers as they look to differentiate themselves.
Dive Insight:
DriverDash improves payment safety by confirming a driver’s identity with facial recognition or a thumbprint scan. The use of an app also prevents the user from losing their credit card or falling victim to card skimmers.
DriverDash also works with Phillips 66’s KickBack rewards program.
“[Drivers] can link their KickBack points card directly in the DriverDash app to earn points with every fuel purchase made with DriverDash at participating locations,” said Arpit Gupta, head of product, global fleet and mobility at WEX.
This agreement expands DriverDash’s network to more than 30,000 gas stations in the U.S.
Convenience retailers have been regularly adding new fleet payment options to their networks. In July, Circle K joined Casey’s General Stores, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores, TravelCenters of America in accepting QuickQ fuel cards. Maverik and Kum & Go convenience stores that offer diesel fuel began accepting TransConnect Services’ fleet and fuel cards in May.
