- Navistar is recalling certain International HX trucks because a grille surround can separate from the vehicles, increasing the risk of crash. It involves HX520 and HX620 models for the years 2020–2024, according to a safety report.
- The defect could affect around 5,800 trucks produced between March 13, 2019, and Feb. 28, 2023, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents. But there haven’t been any reported accidents as of March 16.
- Drivers can detect if the grille surround isn’t flush against the hood during a pre-trip walk around inspection. Another indicator is if the grille area rattles when the vehicle is running.

The recall, tied to insufficient plating and corrosion, comes amid a series of manufacturing setbacks for the OEM.
The manufacturer recently alerted NHTSA about more than 32,000 vehicles with potential parking brake issues. Another notice issued this month affects up to 24 vehicles, where certain 2023 HV, HX, Lonestar, LT, and RH models could have a park valve module get stuck in the un-parked position even after the park switch is activated, causing a rollaway.
But Navistar is hardly alone.
Just this month, Paccar recalled around two dozen 2023–2024 Peterbilt 579 trucks — also because of a park valve module issue. Another recall announcement for 726 units involved Volvo Trucks North America for certain 2024 VNR, VNL and VHD models because a hub cap could detach.
Among widespread recalls, Daimler Truck North America said in February that it’s recalling over 60,600 2021–2021 Freightliner truckers due to a loose joint at the steering arm.
