Thousands of Navistar trucks are at risk of catching on fire while driving or parked, according to a June 2 recall notice.
The recall is affecting certain 2019–2024 International MV and 2016 International DuraStar vehicles as well as 2018–2020 and 2023–2024 International 1300FBC stripped chassis.
Nearly 6,800 Navistar trucks and buses could be affected.
“The brake pressure switch assembly may leak brake fluid into the brake pressure switch's electrical components and cause an electrical short-circuit,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
An electrical short in the brake pressure switch can overheat the circuit, the agency added.
“Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete,” the NHTSA said. “Dealers will replace the brake pressure switch and, if necessary, the wire harness or fuse, free of charge.”
The urgent safety recall comes after Navistar needed to recall over 32,000 vehicles due to software and programming issues with parking brakes. That other notice also covered new International MV trucks.
