Dive Insight:
Maverik, which also has its own fleet card program, is making an expanded play for truckers, broadening its payment options for professional drivers. The retailer in an email said companies often limit use of fleet cards to fuel purchases though they have the option to permit drivers to use the cards for in-store purchases.
“At Comdata, we are extremely excited to partner with a historic brand like Maverik,” said Matthew Miller, vice president of merchant services for, payments company Fleetcor, which owns Comdata. “Our fleet clients will have the benefit of Comdata acceptance at premier locations, while continuing to receive the service excellence they have come to expect.”
Maverik isn’t the only c-store retailer increasingly catering to truck stop users. Besides known players like Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores and Pilot Co., traditional c-store operators like QuikTrip, Casey’s General Stores and RaceTrac are also expanding their presence in the space.
Additionally, Yesway, Rutter’s and others have also turned their attention toward professional drivers.
Salt Lake City, Utah-based Maverik operates more than 400 convenience stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. At least 86 of these locations have commercial fueling lanes and some sites also offer CAT scale services.
The retailer is expanding to Montana in 2024, and will have a footprint that includes over 800 locations across the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions once its acquisition of Kum & Go closes.
