Logging one million miles of crash-free driving is a lucrative achievement for truckers at J.B. Hunt Transport Services.
The carrier in May awarded more than $1.2 million in bonuses in May to 84 drivers as part of its annual safe driving initiative, the company said in a press release. All of the 2022 honorees have now reached the milestone at least twice. Four have logged four million miles, and one has surpassed five million miles.
“These drivers are the pride of our fleet,” Nick Hobbs, COO and president of contract services at J.B. Hunt, said in a statement. “The amount of hard work, commitment and attention to detail that goes into achieving a million safe miles is such an impressive accomplishment, and these drivers have surpassed that at least twice."
Since the company launched the Million Mile program in 1996, more than 4,600 drivers have been recognized for achieving at least one million safe miles. Each driver’s name is etched into the Million Mile Wall at the company’s headquarters in Lowell, Arkansas.
The company, which employs more than 22,000 drivers, said it takes a driver on average between seven and 10 years to reach one million safe miles.
J.B. Hunt has awarded more than $37 million in safety bonuses through the program. Bonuses start at $5,000 for achieving one million miles and double for each million after that up to $50,000.
