Greenlane plans to forge ahead with its development of a nationwide electric truck charging network, regardless of President-elect Donald Trump’s plans to roll back emissions rules, CEO Patrick Macdonald-King said in an emailed statement last week.
The joint venture from Daimler Truck North America, BlackRock and NextEra Energy Resources acknowledges that the current versus incoming presidential administrations “may have varying views on the push for EVs,” he said. But the foundation for a cleaner and more efficient trucking industry has already been laid with major federal and private investments, Macdonald-King said.
“As the industry continues to evolve, we remain confident that our mission to build a nationwide network of commercial EV charging requires a unified effort — one that transcends political divides,” Macdonald-King said.
Greenlane is installing more than 100 chargers for medium- and heavy-duty trucks along Interstate 15 in California. It received a $15 million grant in September to expedite construction of the joint venture’s flagship charging site on the route in Colton, California.
“Regardless of who occupies the White House or which party holds power,” the CEO said, “collaboration and support from the federal government, along with public and private partnerships, are crucial to making this vision a reality.”
A successful shift to zero-emissions trucking will rely on a collective effort to bring projects to life, rather than any one solution or company, Macdonald-King said. That loosely echoed a common trucking industry refrain, that the transition should be technology agnostic.
Working with regional players, OEMs and other stakeholders across the country will be key in addressing challenges and removing barriers to electrification, according to Greenlane. Daimler and Cummins plan to support emissions-reduction goals, regardless of regulatory changes under the Trump administration.
“We believe EV charging isn’t just about sustainability — it’s also an opportunity to reinvigorate the trucking industry, benefiting drivers with faster charging, better facilities, and innovative solutions,” Macdonald-King said. “Our focus is on execution and making these investments profitable, ensuring continued development, regardless of political shifts.”
