Estes Express Lines announced the reopening of over half a dozen former Yellow Corp. terminals on LinkedIn over the past month.
Former Yellow terminals in Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Texas, Vermont and Wisconsin joined the Richmond, Virginia-based carrier’s network.
“We are always looking for good opportunities to add more capacity and enhance our customers’ experience with Estes, and these re-openings are a great example of how we're doing that,” said President and COO Webb Estes in a statement.
“It’s a testament to the dedication of our team. In addition to their hard work, we made significant investments in these facilities to bring them up to Estes’ standards as quickly as we have.”
The Yellow sites, acquired during last year’s bankruptcy auction, include facilities in new markets and others that will replace existing Estes terminals where the carrier’s operations have limited capacity.

Estes acquired 24 terminals at the auction for $248.7 million, while it acquired five leases and then bought back seven more, including the sites in Kansas and Minnesota.
The carrier is hustling alongside XPO, Saia and others to reopen the shuttered terminals and add doors to their networks ahead of a freight market rebound the industry hopes will arrive next year.
The 144-door terminal in Detroit doubled Estes’ capacity in the city, according Webb Estes. Milwaukee was the other largest of the latest batch the carrier has reopened, with 102 doors.
With facilities in new markets, as well as others replacing existing facilities, Estes has added a net 640 doors to its network so far this year, according to the company.
