Estes Express Lines relocated its South Bend, Indiana, terminal to a larger location formerly home to USF Holland, according to a Feb. 3 LinkedIn post.
The 26-acre site, located at 5550 Cleveland Road, features 102 doors, over 49,000 square feet of dock area, more than 9,000 square feet of office space and a fueling station, the post said.
Estes’ new facility is located about three miles northeast of its previous 44-door location near Interstate 90 and U.S. 31 North. It’s led by terminal manager Bryan Van Dyck.
According to the company’s website, Estes offers next-day LTL freight shipping from South Bend to more than 13 locations, including Chicago; Indianapolis; Toronto; Nashville, Tennessee; Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; Pittsburgh; Detroit; Milwaukee; St. Louis; Buffalo, New York; and Louisville, Kentucky.
“More freight can be moved directly from trailer to trailer without the need to stage or to wait — resulting in reduced freight handling, a minimized risk of damage or shortage, and more efficient pickups and deliveries,” the website says.
Estes acquired the South Bend site as part of a $22 million deal to buy back seven Yellow Corp. leases of Estes-owned properties in July 2024. Yellow Corp. and six of its affiliated businesses, including USF Holland, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2023.
In an August interview with Trucking Dive, Estes President and COO Webb Estes said the $22 million lease repurchases represented a net 290 doors of additional permanent capacity.
“Imagine buying something and then, 15 years later, buying it again,” he said at the time. “But ultimately, these are ones that we’ve owned for a long time, but Yellow still controlled the leases, and so this was a way for us to basically bring it back into the Estes network.”
