The slowing demand for new equipment comes amid a persistently sluggish freight cycle. But 2027 EPA regulations are creating a more complicated picture, according to ACT Research.
“Were these ‘normal’ times, the implied stepdown in support would be signaling increased tractor market weakness into next year,” Kenny Vieth, ACT president and senior analyst, said in a report last week. Several indicators suggest there’s a potential for the equipment market to strengthen, such as nearshoring in Mexico.
Since Q3 2022, Daimler’s North America trucks segment’s low point was 46,220 units in Q1 2024.
