Dive Insight:
Thousands of trucks have been flagged for similar issues in recent months, with OEMs pinning the issue on a third party.
The parts in question may have improperly heat treated ball studs that could crack or break, according to Daimler’s recall report.
Daimler cited Cummins as well as its subsidiary Meritor and attributed blame to a sub-supplier.
In June, Paccar issued a similar recall and said as many as 3,887 units could be affected. That was later expanded with additional models to cover 7,410 units, per a NHTSA summary.
The OEM identified Mexico-based USK Internacional S.A. de C.V. as the supplier and advised customers not to drive the vehicles.
